USA to Ghana Flight

In order to catch your early evening flight, arrive early to go through security and check-in processes (suggested United Airlines) at Dulles International Airport, (IAD) to the Accra Kotoka International Airport.  Make sure you have your passport, yellow fever immunization proof, insurance paperwork, neck pillows and earphones to make your non-stop flight to the motherland a restful and enjoyable journey!

Exploring Accra and its Culture

AKWAABA!


Settle in and begin the experience as we familiarize you with the city, food, culture and climate of Accra's vibrant capital. Arrive in Accra, transfer to your luxurious hotel, meet & greet with Black Women Abroad founders. Starting with a cultural awareness orientation, a welcome lunch, and on to a cultural city tour ending in dinner overlooking the gorgeous night skyline of Accra.

Day 3 - Sunday in Accra

Accra, Aburi Botanical Gardens and Wood Carvers

Enjoy an early breakfast at the hotel. Choose an optional trip to church or relax at the hotel. Afterwards travel towards Aburi Mountains for a visit to the Botanical Gardens and world renowned wood carving village/art market. Stop for a delicious and relaxing lunch at a Resort. Return to the Hotel in the late evening to enjoy a relaxing free evening.

Engage in History & Culture

Breakfast, then begin an exciting day visiting historical Pan-African sites and monuments such as the W.E.B. Du Bois Center and Kwame Nkrumah's Mausoleum. Enjoy a traditional West African lunch.  Refresh in the late afternoon and be ready for a cocktail reception with industry leaders  and members of the diaspora to broaden your network on the continent. Afterwards you will enjoy a sumptuous dinner in popular Osu.

Day 5 - Art and Markets

Visit Art Galleries and The Marketplace

 Breakfast and then begin your visit to a popular Art gallery, decorative coffin shops, then visit Accra's high end fashion districts. Enjoy a relaxing lunch in Labone.   Choose African Print cloth at Makola market to make handmade fitted clothing.  We will provide an optional guided tour through the marketplace.  Visit one of the community service projects your voyage helps to fund. Dine at a choice Accra hotspot.


Day 6 Independence Day

Independence activities, Beach Day,

Have breakfast and then go out to enjoy and revel in the celebrations of Ghana's Independence Day. Afterwards take time for the beach at a local beachside resort where we can lunch and spend the afternoon in rest, relaxation, sand and sun.


In the evening at the hotel the seamstress will deliver the African Print clothing orders and any alterations can be requested.


Explore Accra nightlife and live music venues to experience the colorful culture of Accra.

Day 7 Museum & Free time

Past and Present

After a relaxing breakfast at the hotel, in honor of our ancestors we will visit a museum dedicated to the Middle Pasage and over lunch you can interact with the renowned director and sculptor.  Return to Accra in the mid afternoon to venture off to your own pursuits during a free afternoon and evening. or join in some optional visits to Kaneshie Market, Osu or other Art Galleries and/or Fashion studios. 

Day 8 - Cape Coast

Historic Slave Forts and Dungeons of the Central Region

Breakfast and early departure for Cape Coast/Elmina. Stop on the way to visit Assin Manso, the final bathing place for slaves before being transported to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Elmina and Cape Coast dungeons. Enjoy our packed lunch and continue on a guided tour of Elmina, the largest and oldest slave dungeon in the world. Check into the beachside Resort and prepare for the Naming Ceremony. Dinner at the hotel followed by a rustic bonfire and traditional palm wine on the beach.

Day 9 Cape Coast Reflect

Optional Slave Dungeon visit and time for reflection

Breakfast and then optional visit to the Cape Coast Slave Dungeon with time for a visit to the Cape Coast colonial town, market and museum.  For those who opt out of the castle visit, relax and reflect along the beautiful coastline.  Enjoy lunch at the hotel and then depart for Accra.  Dinner out on the town on your own. We will provide a list of live music venues and dinner options.

Day 10 - Depart for USA

Relax and Rejuvenate

After you breakfast, enjoy a free day in Accra to return to some of the shopping or cultural areas, enjoy spa time or take in the beach or the pool. We will have a farewell lunch and afterwards make sure to everyone is packed and ready to head to the airport.
